ARTWork

Inspired by wanderlust, language, and the seduction of movement in any medium, I create multidisciplinary projects using a wide range of artistic methods, materials and technologies in inventive, experimental ways. My impulse to create is at once deeply inspired by wild imagination and motivated by intellectual curiosities. The nature of language, memory, space and place are the recurring concepts that I research and investigate through my creative projects. Ultimately the foundation of my artistic practice is an investment in new genres, cross-disciplinary inquiry, and forging new methods of creative research as a way to generate visceral experiences.

video, installation, sculpture, performance, writing, dance, printmaking, photography, Fiber, Drawing, Painting

Prioritizing experimentation over tradition, I always seek new ways to transform materials, alter traditional craft techniques, and create hybridity by mixing fine art mediums, analog, and new media technologies. Materiality is central to my expression of concept; I often use found materials (recycled objects and found images), considering their cultural and historical and cultural value, textures, and ability to translate ideas through aesthetic metaphors.

  • Nomadic Mythologies

current / ongoing body of work and an experimental narrative screendance film (2024)

    2023/2026

Experimental narrative screen dance film, and forthcoming multimedia installation

“we are the dream the city is having about itself.” ~ “the city is the dream we are having of where we belong”

Nomadic Mythologies is a genre bending tale of a woman and the imagination of the city. As she maps each site with her body, the city is transformed from the foreign into the familiar, the dream wakens, their connection grows, ultimately revealing what belonging somewhere truly means. Her journey shines light on the invisible edges between memory and desire, perception and experience, reality and fiction. The boundary between the perpetual and the evanescent vanishes, the concept of place becomes a dimensional frontier of experiential wonder. Simultaneously an experimental narrative and screen dance

film, this psychogeographic odyssey is inspired by wanderlust, kinship, and Italo Calvino’s novella, Invisible Cities.

Site-specific sculptures and photo artwork, on view at The Stairwell Space, Bridgeport, CT — that activates both the history of the lace factory and the spiral staircase as a place where ephemeral thoughts are potent in shared space. Employing the materiality of lace as a visual metaphor for daydreams, the artworks visualize the traces of these passing poetries that loom in the grey area between consciousness and imagination, illuminating the invisible patterns and interconnections therein.

The five artworks exhibited were created with elements from the history and architecture of the American Fabrics building, crowd-sourced narratives of personal relationships to daydreaming, and handmade fi ne art processes with found materials.

WrITING

My writing practice is versatile and I’ve published scholarly work and critical texts in the discipline of art, creativity, pedagogy, and contemporary philosophy. Additionally I create and publish artist books, including parafiction, monographs, poetry, and photography, most often in unique hybrid forms that defy genre.

Grey Area Aesthetics: Interstitial Space as the Contemporary Center

This first chapter of the critical art theory / philosophy book, Postrational Visuality (Noxious Sector Press), explores the nature of knowledge creation and potentialities of artwork in our present contemporary climate and the era ahead. A look back to look forward to find wonder anew. the form echoes the content in this innovative work of parafition – inviting the reader to wonder about……… seeks to rejuvenate ideas of suspended disbelief in a contemporary climate marked by suspicions of proof and too-frequent disregard of alternative worlds and worldviews. This is "post-truth" as a return to aesthetics as a strategy for sharing unrealized social and philosophical visions.
